Man with Mental Health Issues Disappears in Panama Park

In Panama, a man in his 30s with mental health issues entered Chagres National Park and has gone missing, triggering a two-day intensive search in the protected area. This person lives in the Nuevo Caimitillo community, Panama Norte, and entered the protected zone 22 days ago, and has not been seen since. The search involves park rangers from the Ministry of Environment (MiAmbiente), the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc), agents of the Environmental, Rural and Tourist Police, personnel from the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ), the Public Ministry, and family members. Efforts are focused on patrols and surveillance to locate the missing individual, who reportedly ventured deep into this wooded area. Euribiades González, director of the park, reported that eight park rangers have been deployed to assist and expand the search. The official also mentioned they used technology (drones) to cover the most forested areas without success. In this scenario, the Public Ministry has also initiated investigations into the case, while the MiAmbiente park rangers team, along with the security forces involved in the operation, remains on alert, conducting land and water search and rescue missions to find the missing person. Therefore, MiAmbiente urges the community to report any information about the missing person to the relevant authorities for his recovery and proper assistance. Due to his condition, the young man is considered a person in a state of vulnerability by experts, and therefore needs help to find his way back to his family.
