Garbage Crisis in San Miguelito 99.9% Under Control

The director of the Panama Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority (AAUD), Ovil Moreno, revealed that the garbage crisis in the San Miguelito district is 99.9% under control. Yesterday it was reported at 95%, but today I can tell you it's 99.9% of the more than 250 critical points that have been attended to. Moreno said that what they found in San Miguelito was something impressive, an excess of waste left on the streets for months. He acknowledged that the situation could have gotten worse, but thank God, it didn't. He pointed out that the AAUD managed to intervene in a 'strong' manner, cleaning up a large amount of garbage in the district with a great deal of equipment and dump trucks in more than 250 critical points. "I can say that today I feel that the AAUD has San Miguelito under control without excesses," said Moreno. Moreno also said that more than 40 points where there were holes filled with garbage "and that affected the work; we have already fixed nine of the 40 existing holes." On the other hand, he clarified that the Cleaning Authority has not participated in the transition meetings with the three companies that will be in charge of waste collection starting January 19. "It is a matter that the Mayor's Office and the three companies are handling," he said.
