Ovil Moreno, administrator of the Urban and Domestic Cleaning Authority, expressed his hope that the three companies that will begin providing services in San Miguelito from Monday will do the job properly. Moreno emphasized that the AAUD has already done the heaviest part of the work, collecting over 7,200 pounds of waste. He thanked the AAUD team and all those involved in the operations in San Miguelito and Panama, noting their commitment and willingness to go the extra mile. Moreno also stated that he does not know how the garbage collection system works in the San Miguelito mayor's office and clarified that a special support was needed to intervene in this district, since AAUD funds cannot be touched and the capital could not be neglected. Thanks to the intervention of President José Raúl Mulino and Minister of Economy and Finance Felipe Chapman, special funds were allocated to address San Miguelito. Moreno noted that the AAUD's work is evident on the streets, and representatives of the districts and the mayor's office provide personnel, especially for sweeping, to ensure the area looks as it should. He described the situation found on the first day as disastrous but stressed that intervention was possible at the right time. The investment in the San Miguelito operation is estimated between $650,000 and $700,000. Moreno assured that this is a tremendous effort and thanked God that a public health crisis did not erupt.
