Panama: Warning for Heavy Rains and Storms

Bad weather is on its way and could hit several provinces hard. According to the IMHPA report, these rains could cause swollen rivers, floods, and landslides, especially in the Caribbean watershed and the Central Cordillera. In these areas, rains could be more persistent and with lightning strikes that are unforgiving. The report warns that the situation could worsen. A new cold front is moving through the Caribbean Basin, which would increase rainfall and the risk of flooding, river surges, and landslides, especially in vulnerable communities and mountainous areas. Faced with this scenario, SINAPROC has called for calm and prevention. The call is not to let your guard down, even if the sky seems calm for a while. The areas under scrutiny are not few. Bocas del Toro, Colón, the Ngäbe Buglé comarca, North Veraguas, Guna Yala, and Chiriquí (Highlands) are on the list, along with the maritime areas of the Caribbean. This is not to scare, but to take care. Where the ground is saturated, any extra downpour could be the straw that breaks the camel's back. It is recommended to avoid aquatic activities, not to set sail in small boats if the sea is rough, to secure roofs and loose objects, and to stay tuned to official channels. The warning is not for nothing. In case of an emergency, people can dial 911 or 520-4426. SINAPROC has maintained a prevention advisory for persistent rains and thunderstorms from February 4 to 7, 2026, due to a frontal system firmly in place in the Caribbean Basin.
