Panama launches “Doctors with Heart” program to reduce surgical backlog. The First Lady and the Social Security Fund (CSS) presented the “Doctors with Heart” program, an initiative aimed at reducing the surgical backlog and facilitating medical care for patients awaiting surgeries in Panama. During the launch event, the First Lady, Maricel Cohen de Mulino, was symbolically presented with the program's vest, highlighting the commitment and vocation of the volunteer specialist doctors who donate their time to help others within the public health system. Strategy to address delayed surgeries The surgical backlog at the CSS continues to be one of the main challenges of the Panamanian health system, driven by the lack of specialists and the sustained increase in patients on the waiting list. With this new program, the Social Security Fund seeks to provide a more efficient response by using its hospital infrastructure more effectively and adding the solid support of its medical staff. Open call for specialists Interested doctors can voluntarily register through the CSS Panama digital platform. The central objective is to shorten surgery waiting times, improve the quality of medical care, and restore confidence to insured individuals who depend on the public health system.
