Three Dead Manta Rays Found on Panama's Coast

Three dead manta rays were found on the coast of Punta Chame in the province of West Panama by personnel from the Coasts and Seas section of the Ministry of the Environment (MiAMBIENTE) and park rangers. The protocol in these cases, explained Mayerlin González, in charge of the Coasts and Seas section in the province of West Panama, involves assessing the area and properly managing the specimens to verify the conditions of the environment and gather technical information. Although the cause of death of the rays is unknown, appropriate measures were taken to bury the remains of these cartilaginous fish, complying with the established procedures. The official recommended that the population, upon finding marine fauna, avoid direct manipulation of the bodies and immediately notify the competent authorities. She also emphasized that citizen collaboration is fundamental for the protection and conservation of marine-coastal ecosystems. Park rangers from MiAMBIENTE continue to patrol the sectors of La Claridad, Líbano, Puerto El Líbano, Puerto La Zona, Los Pescadores, Playa Caracol and Punta Chame, as part of the 'Guardians 2026' operation.
