Authorities reminded that these actions are sanctioned under Law 24 of 1995 on Wildlife, a norm that supports the protection of ecological balance and the preservation of fauna in the country.

During the inspection, authorities detected a cleared area and remains of recently cut trees. All of this was recorded and will form part of the investigation for this environmental crime in the area near the Camino de Cruces trail.

The case occurred amid the 'Guardians 2026' operation, where rangers from the Camino de Cruces National Park maintain constant patrols to deter any attacks on biodiversity.

During the tours, shotgun shells, open trails, solid waste, accumulated stones, and wildlife bones were also found, clear signs of prohibited activities.

The authorities reiterated that hunting and logging are prohibited in protected areas.

A man was caught with a chainsaw, machete, and fuel containers near the Panama-Colón highway, within the limits of a protected area. The alert sounded immediately, and officials from Mi Ambiente, along with the Environmental Police, sprang into action. The equipment was seized on the spot, as the individual did not have permits to carry out any type of logging.
