An official urged the general public to take appropriate safety measures, especially in areas without lifeguard surveillance, such as rivers, puddles, streams, and lakes, as their water levels may rise suddenly due to rains occurring in various parts of the country. After the immersion of divers and a drone from the Fire Department, the body of a man around 45 years old was recovered. He had been reported missing yesterday in Charco Lajas, located on the river in the Paja de Sombrero sector, in La Esperanza de Gualaca (Chiriquí). Upon failing to find him, the situation was reported to security authorities via the 911 line. Paramedics and members of the Joint Task Force also participated in the operation, maintaining security in the area during the maneuvers. Mónica Acosta of the Chiriquí Civil Protection System (Sinaproc) detailed that it was thanks to the drone that the body was located at the bottom of the puddle. According to a witness, the man submerged in the puddle around 3:00 p.m. yesterday and did not resurface, prompting a search. The search efforts began yesterday and continued this Monday, with the Aquatic Tactical Operations Unit of the Fire Department entering the waterway, while drones and specialized equipment expanded the search radius in hard-to-reach areas.
