Panama Activates UV Radiation Watch

Panamanian authorities call for caution on beaches due to high UV radiation and dangerous surf conditions until March 14.

Panama Activates UV Radiation Watch

The Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA) has activated a UV radiation watch, which will be in effect until 5:00 p.m. on March 14, 2026. The report warns that indices can reach high and even extreme levels, so it is recommended to exercise caution when exposed to the sun. The forecast explained that atmospheric conditions favor a greater presence of solar radiation during these days. In this scenario, authorities are asking the population to take protective measures to avoid damage from direct exposure.

In parallel, the National System for Civil Protection (Sinaproc) issued a preventive warning for surf, a situation that could be felt in several coastal areas of both the Pacific and the Panamanian Caribbean. According to the entity, this phenomenon can cause rip currents, strong breakers, and choppy seas, which poses a danger to swimmers, fishermen, and small boats navigating or conducting activities near the shore.

Given the outlook, Sinaproc is asking the public to act with caution if visiting beaches. Among the recommendations are not to enter the sea when strong waves are observed, to closely watch children and bathers, and to follow the instructions of authorities and lifeguards. The institutions reiterated that it is important to remain attentive to official warnings, as weather and sea conditions can change depending on wave behavior.
