Gabriel Quiel, 45, who was reported missing on Wednesday in the community of El 20, located in the corregimiento of San Juan, was found dead this Friday in the waters of the Chagres River, in Colón. The news has devastated Quiel's family, as they had hoped to find him alive. It was around 2:00 PM on Wednesday that a resident of the Nuevo Chagres corregimiento saw Quiel at the bridge over the Chagres River and immediately notified his relatives. However, although they arrived at the scene as soon as they could, they failed to locate him. Desperate to find him, Quiel's family filed a missing person report with the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) in the Chagres district, but their hopes were dashed on Friday when, after search efforts, his body was found in the river waters. Mr. Gabriel suffered from epileptic seizures, so it is being investigated whether he had an episode and accidentally fell into the river, drowning.
