Panama's Foreign Affairs Committee Addresses US Hearing

The Foreign Relations Commission of the National Assembly is closely monitoring the events that occurred during the hearing in the United States Senate this morning. In that hearing, the alleged interference of China in the operation of the Panama Canal, as well as in the administration of the ports of Balboa and Cristobal, was affirmed and questioned.

Deputy Walkiria Chandler presented a proposal with the intention of following up on the conflict while projecting and defending Panama's legitimate right over the Panama Canal. For his part, the president of the Commission, Joan Guevara, announced that discussions will be held with the Executive to obtain more information on the actions being taken regarding this issue.

In this morning's Hearing, it was even falsely claimed that China has military control over the Panama Canal. The Foreign Relations Commission of the National Assembly has taken action and will seek to clarify this situation to protect Panama's interests and guarantee sovereignty over its territory, especially on sensitive issues such as the operation of the Canal and the administration of the mentioned ports.
