Presidential Remarks on Conditional Release of Workers

Panama's President José Raúl Mulino commented on the conditional release of 83 workers detained after violent protests regarding the construction of the new children's hospital. He acknowledged the judicial decision and emphasized understanding the legal process.

The President of the Republic of Panama, José Raúl Mulino, commented on the Penal System's decision regarding the conditional release of 83 workers detained after the demonstrators' protests at the construction of a new children's hospital.

Mulino stated that as a lawyer, he understands the judicial decision, although he noted that he was not present at the hearing and does not have details of what transpired. “The decision yesterday was made by the judicial authority through the criminal prosecution system. I did not participate in this hearing, and I do not have the details. It is important that 83 people are charged and undergo the legal process, and I believe that prosecutors can appeal this decision,” the head of state said.

Mulino also noted that measures were established for the participants in the process, which allow for a clear determination of what is occurring and the offenses that are being alleged. “As a lawyer, I must understand this decision, but I do not know the realities of these processes,” Mulino concluded.
