Politicians Encouraging Land Invasion in Torrijos Carter

A group of politicians in San Miguelito is inciting private individuals to invade public pathways near health facilities, risking emergency access and urban chaos. Authorities had previously mandated the demolition of unauthorized structures in the area to maintain public safety.

A group of politicians is inciting individuals to invade a road easement adjoining the Paid Zone of Torrijos Carter and a well-known supermarket in the Torrijos Carter sector, Corregimiento de Belisario Porras, District of San Miguelito. The aim of this invasion is to install structures, kiosks, and informal shops for commercial sale, which would negatively impact pedestrian traffic and cause problems in urban development.

According to a source who preferred to remain anonymous, political protection has been offered to these individuals with the intention of appropriating public sidewalks, which also border public health facilities. This would obstruct the entry and exit of ambulances in cases of medical emergencies. The Ministry of Public Works issued Resolution 261 of 2024 last year, signed by then-minister José Luis Andrade, which ordered the demolition of the structures and kiosks that were invading the easement at the same location.

The source called for not allowing individuals protected by politicians to invade the road easement, as this would cause anarchy in the area and would affect security and mobility in the zone.
