In the National Assembly of Panama, a debate has been held on the Reforms to Social Security and the IVM, discussing key aspects such as the pension model and retirement age. During the session, numerous modifications to the original project were presented.
A total of 172 modification proposals have been submitted, coming from both individual deputies and parliamentary groups. The proposals of Francisco Brea, Dana Castañeda, Roberto Zúñiga, among others, stand out. Proposals from the Executive, such as the 3% increase in the worker-employer contribution, are also included.
After long hours of debate, it was decided to suspend the session and resume it at another time, with the approval of various political figures such as Jorge Herrera, Dana Castañeda, and Janine Prado. President Dana Castañeda presented 28 modification proposals during the discussion.
During the interventions, the importance of adjusting the pension models to the reality of the country was explained, considering the contributions of workers to ensure the sustainability of the system. The Deputy Minister of Finance, Fausto Fernández, highlighted the need to adapt pensions to the economic situation of the country.
Despite the extensive discussion, 48 modification proposals remained to be read. It is expected that once debated and voted on, progress can be made in the approval of the reforms, which include fundamental aspects for the social security system in Panama.
