UAF reviews over 25 companies linked to former officials

Panama's Financial Analysis Unit has launched a review of over 25 companies for suspicious financial transactions linked to former government officials.

The Financial Analysis Unit (UAF) has initiated a review process of more than 25 companies that are alleged to have maintained ties with former officials of the past government, after detecting unusual transactions between the years 2019 and 2025. According to a publication by Radio Panamá, among the names on this list are the former Secretary of the Presidency, Nadia del Río, and her partner, Juan Carlos Soto, who are reportedly linked to entities such as Panama Solutions S.A., Soto y Gómez S.A., and Imperium Lex Legal Bureau. The official request aims to determine if these companies participated in operations related to money laundering or illicit financing, as part of the country's efforts to strengthen its transparency mechanisms and prevention of financial crimes. According to the disclosed information, the companies cited must present the UAF with documentation and records of their financial movements in order to clarify whether the operations were irregular or if it is a routine verification process within the audits carried out by the entity. The investigation comes at a time when Panama is seeking to maintain its commitment to international financial control bodies and to avoid any accusations that could affect its reputation in terms of transparency.
