Social Security Fund Official Arrested for Corruption

In Panama, a Social Security Fund official was arrested in 'Operation Relámpago' on suspicion of corruption. He allegedly demanded illicit payments from company representatives. B/.800 in cash was seized.


Social Security Fund Official Arrested for Corruption

Within the framework of Operation Relámpago, units of the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DII) of the National Border Service (Senafront) apprehended a 46-year-old citizen, an official of the Social Security Fund (CSS), in the La Esperanza sector, Barú district. He is accused of a crime against the public administration, in the modality of corruption of public officials.

According to the investigation lines, the individual, taking advantage of his position, allegedly demanded irregular payments from legal representatives of a company, in order to favor them in administrative procedures.

During the police action, the sum of B/.800.00 in cash was seized, in addition to documentation related to the case. These elements, along with the implicated individual, were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal proceedings.
