Panama Bans Heavy Trucks for Holidays

The Panamanian Government has decided to take a firm stance by temporarily banning the circulation of oversized cargo vehicles during the national holidays. This measure, implemented through the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT), aims to prevent chaos on the country's roads.

The restriction, which is already in effect, will extend until Thursday, November 6, 2025, and covers the entire national territory. Dump trucks, tankers, and vans exceeding 2.50 meters in width, 20 meters in length, or 4.15 meters in height will not be allowed on the roads, unless their drivers want to face a checkpoint or a hefty fine.

The measure, coordinated with the National Directorate of Traffic Operations (DNOT), seeks to guarantee free passage during the patriotic parades. At its core, it also aims to bring order to a sector where trucks often act as if they own the streets.

The ATTT has reminded the public that this decision is not arbitrary but a necessary action to protect citizen safety and ensure traffic flow on the main avenues.

Meanwhile, critics on social media have pointed out that Panama does not need more temporary bans but rather permanent planning.

In the meantime, the Government's message is clear: during the national holidays, the 'heavy' vehicles must park, as the spotlight belongs to the Fatherland.
