The Attorney General of the Nation, Luis Gómez, answered what many were asking: is there a criminal investigation against former Vice President José Gabriel Carrizo? For now, the answer is no.
“That is a process that remains in the Contraloría General de la República,” explained Gómez. “The Contraloría, within its oversight functions, was the one that ordered that precautionary measure,” he added.
The issue erupted on November 6, when it became known that the Comptroller, Anel Flores, ordered the seizure of Carrizo's accounts and properties for an amount of one million, three hundred thirteen thousand, eight hundred eighteen dollars and 33 cents, according to Resolution No. 3286-2025-LEG/PJ, signed on October 22, 2025.
“They ordered the precautionary measure of the seizure of those assets,” reiterated Gómez.
When asked if the Public Ministry plans to open a criminal case, the head of the MP was emphatic: “The criminal investigations carried out by the Public Ministry for crimes against the public administration and other modalities will continue their course, but this case — for now — is in the administrative stage,” he emphasized.
Gómez also insisted that a formal investigation can only be initiated when there are accredited evidence of a crime and the persons appear to be directly linked.
“Once the crime is accredited and the persons are linked, they will be presented before the courts,” said Gómez.
In simple terms: the ball is in the Contraloría's court.
Among the affected assets are accounts at the National Bank, Multibank, Prival, and Banco General, as well as vehicles registered in the name of the former vice president, which are now under the custody of the Contraloría General de la República.
