The general director of the National Customs Authority (ANA), Soraya Valdivieso, stated that over the last 15 years, hiring at Customs was done for political purposes. However, she noted that this is a technical institution responsible for collecting revenue and ensuring cargo security.
The National Customs Authority (ANA) has severed ties with more than 200 officials in recent months, some for their alleged involvement in corruption cases, while others were dismissed for being unfit for the position.
Regarding corruption cases, the director assured that she maintains a policy of "zero tolerance".
The general director of the entity, Soraya Valdivieso, clarified that the dismissals were not made for political reasons, but rather respect was shown to people who have technical studies or bachelor's degrees, regardless of the government in which they began to work.
Valdivieso informed that several files have been referred to the Public Ministry, within the framework of joint operations with other security entities.
"There is zero opportunity; whoever does it, pays for it immediately," she emphasized.
Likewise, she highlighted that in recent operations carried out at Tocumen International Airport and Panama Pacific Airport, almost a million dollars have been seized.
