Panama Rejects Diplomatic Interference in Internal Affairs

The Ministry of Foreign Relations of the Republic of Panama has issued a firm rejection of any attempt at interference in the country's internal affairs by accredited diplomatic missions. This statement comes in response to recent comments regarding a trip made by some members of the National Assembly of Panama. The communiqué emphasizes that the conduct of the country's foreign policy is an exclusive power of the Executive Branch, represented by the President of the Republic, in accordance with the Constitution and national laws. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminded that, as a sovereign state, Panama does not accept external conditioning or pressures that seek to influence the legitimate decisions of its authorities, including the actions of the National Assembly, which operates within the framework of the separation of powers, one of the fundamental pillars of the country's democratic system. The Ministry also reaffirmed its respect for the diplomatic missions accredited in Panama and reiterated its expectation that the same respect be maintained towards national institutions, as stipulated by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. In its declaration, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs underscored Panama's commitment to promoting international relations based on the principles of sovereignty, mutual respect, and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.
