Double homicide investigation in Chitré takes new turns

The shocking double homicide that occurred in September on Aminta Burgos Street in Chitré is taking significant turns. After weeks of investigation, two individuals—a 30-year-old woman, a relative of a government official in Azuero, and a 22-year-old man—have been apprehended as alleged accomplices in the brutal attack that claimed the lives of 25-year-old Vivian Vianeth Vega and her partner, 24-year-old Brad Villalaz. The couple was outside their home when they were met with a barrage of gunfire. Although the hearing was held in private at the defense's request, it was revealed that the detainees may have been accomplices to the attackers, who remain at large and are being intensively sought by authorities. Judge of Guarantees Julissa Saturno ordered provisional detention for both suspects, citing the gravity of the crime and the risk of flight. The Prosecutor for Homicide and Femicide, Edilma Flores, presented the evidence that led to the charges of aggravated intentional homicide and criminal association, while the defense attorney announced an appeal, which will be decided on November 26. Nearly three months after the attack that took the young couple's lives, the investigation continues. Authorities have not ruled out further proceedings and more arrests, while the presumed hitmen remain at large.
