Jorge Herrera Elected President of Panameñista Party

Deputy Jorge Herrera won the Panameñista Party's extraordinary convention with 879 votes, promising unity and preparation for the 2029 elections.

Deputy Jorge Herrera was elected this Sunday as the provisional president of the Panameñista Party during the Extraordinary National Convention, securing 879 votes.

Herrera assured that while he is the provisional president, he will not accept any impositions, and the will of the delegates will prevail.

Surrounded by controversial figures, such as former President Juan Carlos Varela, Herrera promised to lead the party towards the next electoral contest.

"We must maintain unity, we want to be in government in 2029, but without hesitation, not with one foot here and another there to see what is most convenient," he stated.

He also mentioned that the most important challenge comes after 2027 and involves seeking the best candidates.

In this sense, he said they advocate for maintaining unity after the internal elections held this Sunday and any differences that may have arisen during the process.

"The primaries will be our spearhead," he added.

"We have a roadmap to work with and we maintain the party's vocation," Herrera added.

Herrera's victory was not a major surprise; it was a foregone conclusion given his lead over his opponent, Carlos Raúl Piad.
