Benicio Robinson's Team Wins in PRD Internal Elections

Benicio Robinson's 'team' swept the internal elections of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD), where five new members of the National Executive Committee (CEN) were elected. These positions had been vacant following the resignation of their previous holders. Candidates aligned with the president of the PRD dominated the contest: Balbina Herrera secured the General Secretariat; José Luis Cabrera, the First Vice-Presidency; Jesenka Espinoza, the Second Vice-Presidency; Raphael Buchannan, the First Subsecretariat, and Arquesio Arias secured the Sixth Subsecretariat. The election was marked by polarization between the lists backed by Robinson and those sympathetic to former General Secretary Pedro Miguel González, who was attempting to regain ground within the collective. Balbina achieved 188 votes; Pedro Miguel, 104. The result, widely favorable to Robinson's allies, reaffirms —according to internal leaders— the 'indisputable' leadership of the also Bocas del Toro deputy, who is now 'shielded' from attacks from both external adversaries and critical voices within the party itself. Meanwhile, the new General Secretary Balbina Herrera declared that the PRD emerges 'strengthened' from this electoral process, calling for internal unity. 'There are no winners or losers here,' she affirmed, highlighting that the next step will be to organize the new CEN, review the statutes, and prepare the collective to arrive cohesive at the 2029 elections.
