The dean of the Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (UNACHI), Evelia Aparicio de Esquivel, has been suspended from her post after a judge charged her with embezzlement. The high-ranking UNACHI official is accused of having allegedly received double salary for a period of four years, from 2017 to 2021, which amounts to a figure of over B/. 375,000. During the hearing, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office presented evidence, arguments, and the request for preventive detention for the dean. However, the guarantees judge, although recognizing that the case is serious, ordered the measure of suspension from her position while the process continues. What comes next does not look good The Prosecutor's Office was not satisfied with that measure and appealed, scheduled for December 4. On that day it will be known if the judge maintains the suspension... or if it ends in preventive detention.
