La Prensa distances itself from its former president's actions

La Prensa Corporation stated it does not support the actions of Annette Planells, who was president of the company but violated the terms of her appointment. According to the newspaper, Planells failed to meet three key conditions, leading to the termination of her cooperation with the corporation.

La Prensa Corporation, S.A. states that it does not share, endorse, or identify with the actions of Ms. Planells, which not only deviate from the basic principles of ethical and responsible journalism but are also inconsistent with the institutional values that have historically characterized us. The newspaper clarifies that Planells' appointment to the Board of Directors and her subsequent designation as president were 'carried out under three clear and explicit conditions, which she accepted.' According to the newspaper, this situation was 'previously raised with Mr. Planells, who even expressed his agreement to his imminent labor disengagement from Corprensa.' 'Following the recent events that have come to light, this corporation has confirmed its suspicions that the first two conditions for her appointment were also not met,' the Board of Directors' communiqué continued. The newspaper states that Planells was required to sever any ties with the digital medium Foco, suspend any political activism, and address and resolve the conflict of interest arising from her incorporation into this corporation. 'However, given her decision not to comply with this condition, she herself chose to terminate all relations with Corporación La Prensa, S.A.', they state from 12 de Octubre. Following the scandal sparked by revelations from lawyer Karisma Karamañites, Corporación La Prensa, S.A. (Corprensa) distances itself from the actions of Annette Planells, ensuring that it does not endorse the actions of someone who was part of its board of directors and subsequently president of that media outlet. 'Consequently,' adds La Prensa, 'we categorically state that these actions were carried out without the knowledge, authorization, or approval of this Board of Directors.' The media explains that this was due to 'the fact that her brother, Mr. Juan Carlos Planells, served as the general manager of the company.' 'We reiterate our commitment to transparency, editorial independence, professional integrity, and strict adherence to the ethical norms that underlie the practice of journalism within this corporation,' they conclude.
