Panama Regains 'A' Status from GANHRI

Panama's Ombudsman regains top 'A' status from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, restoring its right to vote in the UN Human Rights Council.

Panama Regains 'A' Status from GANHRI

Panama has regained its 'A' status, awarded by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), following a successful evaluation by the Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA) in Geneva. With this, Panama once again fully complies with the Paris Principles and reclaims its position with a voice and vote in the main international human rights forums. Eduardo Leblanc, the Ombudsman, highlighted that 'This is a milestone for the country's democratic institutions. This means that the human rights situation in the country can be presented to the international community with autonomy, rigor, and transparency.' This status demonstrates that the Ombudsman operates with independence, pluralism, and the necessary technical capacity to defend human rights without any interference. Consequently, Panama regains its right to participate before the United Nations Human Rights Council.
