Investigation into Ham Resale in Panama's Naviferia Program

The director of the Agropecuary Marketing Institute (IMA), Nilo Murillo, confirmed that an investigation is underway into the alleged resale of hams intended for the Naviferia program in East Panama. During a tour in Veraguas, Murillo reiterated that the IMA maintains an active investigation into groups that would be buying large quantities of hams to resell them. Murillo stated that if the facts are confirmed, criminal complaints will be filed, warning that the program exists for families to buy food at affordable prices, especially ham at $15. He affirmed that the IMA's security department is working with other authorities and that legal actions will be taken to prevent people from profiting from a program created to support low-income families. Bocas del Toro: Sales suspended and annoyance among attendees In the province of Bocas del Toro, specifically at the 1 Millo court, the second day of the Naviferia took place with high attendance from early hours. However, after 8:00 a.m., authorities informed that the sale had concluded, which generated annoyance among dozens of people who were still waiting to get their Christmas box. Testimonials collected at the place reflected dissatisfaction: many assured that the amount of products was not enough and that people were left without access to the Christmas ham, one of the most sought-after items. Authorities informed that the event will continue this Thursday in Changuinola, behind the Sabanitas sign, where again products will be sold at a low cost by presenting ID and paying $15. Colón: 11,000 boxes distributed with no major incidents In Colón, the second day of Naviferias passed normally. Sales were held in Puerto Pilón, Escobal, and Cativá, where 11,000 Christmas boxes were distributed. People began to arrive since the night before, seeking to secure the star product: the picnic ham. Authorities reminded that it is mandatory to present the ID to acquire the box. The activity will continue tomorrow in Miguel de la Borday at the central park of Portobelo, where a similar attendance is expected.
