Citizens protest against corruption in Panama. When comparisons are necessary, it is essential to turn to maxims, and what better than mathematics for some government lawyers, economists, accountants, and other professionals to fully grasp the magnitude of truthful, comparable, and sustainable information. The estimated population of El Salvador in 2024 was 6.4 million people. That small Central American country has a budget for 2026 of 10.555 billion dollars. Doing nothing to try to reverse that onerous situation implies ceding vital spaces and sacrificing ethical values, integrity, and the rights of the population. I am the son of Juana. That same selective and exclusive model once again governs the life of the population, going against the old conquests of the popular movement. Starting in 1968, under the government of General Omar Torrijos, 'the tortilla was flipped'. It is difficult to think that, in the face of such an unjust economic and social reality, the inhabitants of this country would respond with indifference to the acts of corruption that undermine the foundations of the State. The fear of criticism has never been the guiding principle for Panamanians. Their budget for 2026 will be 12.8 billion dollars, that is, 2.4 million dollars per inhabitant. With a population of about 4.6 million people, the Republic of Panama has a budget for 2026 of 34.901 billion dollars, which shows an average expenditure of 7.8 million dollars per inhabitant. Obviously: they are neither felt nor seen, except for the announcement of a hospital for animals while the architects of that model let the sick die due to lack of supplies, medicines, and even rapid and efficient medical care. It should be noted that in Panama, megaprojects in the construction sector are the main source of resource leakage, debt, overpricing, and bribes that future generations will pay. The president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, coined the phrase that 'money goes further when it's not stolen', but in Panama, money tends to vanish into a few hands, under the vile and ridiculous pretext that 'the private sector is a good administrator'.
