Posthumous Tribute to Fallen Panama Police Captain

A ceremony was held in Panama to honor Captain José Isaza Melo, who was killed in the line of duty. President and other officials paid tribute to his bravery and loyalty.


On Thursday, a posthumous tribute was held at the headquarters of the National Police in Ancón, attended by government authorities, including President José Raúl Mulino, as well as the parents of the captain, Mireia Melo and José Isaza, along with family, friends, and fellow officers. Captain Isaza Melo lost his life after being shot by hitmen who were targeting a prisoner, who was also killed. During the ceremony, Minister of Public Security Frank Ábrego stated that Captain Isaza Melo offered his life in the line of duty, serving Panama with bravery, honor, and loyalty. The incident occurred when the inmate was performing community service at the Junta Comunal de Caimitillo. The operation was carried out after an investigation allowed authorities to identify the suspects. To date, five people have been apprehended, including a minor and four adults. The National Police and the Public Ministry arrested a man known as 'Chuki' in the Santa Marta area, allegedly linked to the double homicide registered on December 12th in Caimitillo, which resulted in the deaths of Captain José Isaza Melo and a civilian.
