Panama Joins Latin American Voice Against Honduras Vote Recount

The Honduran people have already expressed their will in the November 20 elections. Panama and other countries have made it clear that they will not accept maneuvers that put democracy and vote transparency at risk. Panama joined the statement of several Latin American countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and the Dominican Republic. They reject the decree by President Xiomara Castro that requested a general vote recount. They recognize Nasty Asfur as the elected president of Honduras, stating that his actions ignore the National Electoral Council and undermine democracy. They also condemn the violence against the opposition last Thursday. Any act of political violence seeking to change the results of the polls is unacceptable. All of this is confirmed by international missions.
