Four men in Panama have been charged with domestic violence and will be remanded to correctional centers. According to the Ministry Público, the four suspects, aged 42, 27, 56, and 36, are linked to separate domestic violence cases in Barú (Chiriquí), Aguadulce (Coclé), and the corregimientos of Arnulfo Arias and Omar Torrijos (San Miguelito). The Guarantors Courts considered the nature of the crimes and the danger the accused pose to their victims before ordering the most severe precautionary measure: provisional detention. One case involves the assault of two elderly adults (80 years old) by their own son (42 years old) on January 14. The man threatened and assaulted them when they refused to give him money. A preliminary investigation also established that this was not the first time the subject had attacked his parents. In another case, on January 15 in Aguadulce, a 27-year-old man insulted and beat his 22-year-old partner. He threw her out of the house, smashed her cell phone, and hit her in the face several times, causing injuries that left her incapacitated for 20 days. On January 18, in the corregimiento of Arnulfo Arias, a 56-year-old man assaulted his partner with a bladed weapon (knife) and threatened to kill her. On the same day, in the corregimiento of Omar Torrijos, a 36-year-old man physically assaulted his partner and harassed her with death threats. All cases are being investigated by the Ministry Público, which has six months to complete the investigations.
