Panamanian filmmaker's film premiere overshadowed by financial aid scandal

Panamanian filmmaker Fernando Broce premiered his new film "Danz3," but the public is more concerned about whether he will return the public funds he received for his studies in the US. An Instagram post with photos from the premiere has sparked a strong reaction from users demanding he repay the money.

Panamanian filmmaker Fernando Broce posted an Instagram gallery of the premiere of his film "Danz3". In the description of the photos, where he can be seen on the red carpet, on the set, and in other settings, Broce wrote: "I produced a film, made friends, learned a lot, laughed a lot, and now, I will be able to share it with you." However, some users were not impressed by the production; instead, they were eager to know if the filmmaker had already returned the public funds he received from the Institute for the Training and Use of Human Resources (Ifarhu). The post has over 6,000 likes and more than 300 comments, several of which allude to the economic aid: "And what about paying back the aid?" At the time, when the scandal became public in 2023, Broce explained that the benefit he received from the institution was a scholarship for academic and extracurricular merits, but his justification did not convince everyone. The first screening of "Danz3", a production by the dance academy Complot, has been overshadowed by the scandal of the economic aid Fernando Broce received to study film in the United States. In addition to the aforementioned amount, he received an additional $75,000.00 as a "credit".
