Panama Seizes Over Half a Ton of Drugs

A joint operation by the prosecutor's office and aeronaval service resulted in the seizure of over 500 drug packages and the detention of four individuals in the Guna Yala region.

The National Prosecutor's Office reported that this is part of anti-narcotics actions developed by the Drugs Prosecutor's Office with the aeronaval service. More than 500 drug packages, four detainees, and the seizure of two vessels were the result of an operation by the National Aeronaval Service (SENAN) in the waters of the Guna Yala region. The operation took place north of El Porvenir in this indigenous region, with the coordination of officials from the Colon and Guna Yala Drugs Prosecutor's Offices. These four individuals must appear before a guarantees judge who will legalize the apprehension, charge them with drug trafficking in maritime waters, and impose a precautionary measure. According to SENAN, 573 rectangular drug packages were seized from two artisanal vessels with four crew members. All evidence in this case was taken to the Cristóbal Colón Naval Station (formerly Sherman) to be handed over to judicial authorities to begin the judicialization process.
