On Tuesday, the San Miguelito Municipality carried out the eviction of at least 12 businesses located in the Brisas del Golf Park, an action that ended with police intervention and several detentions. Meanwhile, merchants seek to dialogue with Mayor Irma Hernández and the Municipality's lawyers to demand that the law be respected. Others were claiming with papers in hand as the park changed its face before the neighbors. The evicted merchants reject that version and denounce a violation of due process. In a matter of hours, what was a commercial area was left empty. The Municipality alleges that the businesses illegally occupied easement areas, a practice - according to them - permitted by past administrations. Some merchants tried to save what little they could. They assure that they now seek to establish order and recover public spaces, although they recognize that the problem comes from years ago. Although the Municipality states that there have been notifications since December, those affected affirm that this does not authorize an eviction while the legal process is still open. After the operation, the authorities announced that the construction of a recreational park for the community is projected in the area, a project that must go through a bidding process. The Municipality of San Miguelito executed this Tuesday the eviction of at least 12 businesses, located in the Brisas del Golf Park, an action that ended with police intervention and several detained. The issue is still developing, with tension in the area and the community divided between order and the claim of those who say they were removed without justice. They point out that the case has not yet been resolved by the courts. In the place, it was observed how they were removing roofs, structures and stalls, including food trucks and sales of food, smoothies and fruits. “Nothing has been closed here,” some commented, visibly hit by the loss of their livelihood. From early on, officials arrived with clear orders: to dismantle everything. They affirm that there is an ongoing civil lawsuit and a pending appeal, so they consider the forced removal of the structures to be irregular.
