The Ministry of Public Security of Panama reported on the results of the 'Safe Carnival 2026' operation. Head of the department Frank Abrego emphasized that although the figures show significant progress, every human life demands greater responsibility from the State. 'Security is not an event; it is the State's permanent responsibility,' he clarified. The operation was national and permanent. 'The Panamanian State acted in a coordinated and preventive manner, with a presence throughout the country, not just in the carnival zones,' the minister stated. On behalf of the President of the Republic, José Raúl Mulino, Minister Abrego thanked the more than 30,000 men and women of the Public Force and strategic allies who worked day and night to ensure safe celebrations across the nation. Regarding traffic fatalities, the decrease was 80%, with one case recorded compared to five last year. According to the official report from the Ministry of Public Security, during the carnival period, 149,000 vehicles traveled within the country, which posed a significant challenge for mobility, control, and inter-institutional coordination. The total number of victims in traffic accidents decreased by 37.5% compared to the previous year, from 16 to 10 cases. 'We do not celebrate numbers; we assume our duty,' the minister concluded.
