Panama. On March 26, the sentencing hearing for indigenous leader Toribio García, 42, will be held. He was found guilty of alleged crimes against public officials, apology for the crime, and personal injuries. The court made this decision after hearing and analyzing the arguments of the intervening parties, as well as the presentation of 15 testimonial, 4 expert, and 1 documentary evidence presented by the Public Ministry and the defenders. During the trial, the Public Ministry was represented by prosecutor Ladys Palacios; while private lawyer Nilo González provided legal assistance to the citizen, and Dany Delgado intervened for the complaint. This oral trial is related to a protest that took place in June 2025 in the community of El Salado, in the east of the province of Chiriquí, in which the indigenous leader participated, and for which he was also accused of inciting violence through social networks.
