Panama - A 32-year-old man has been provisionally detained at the request of the Sexual Freedom and Integrity Crimes Section of the West Panama Regional Prosecutor's Office. He was charged with aggravated rape against a 6-year-old minor. The incident occurred in 2018 in the district of Arraiján, where the accused, taking advantage of the victim's trust as her cousin, committed the crime on multiple occasions. The accused was already serving a prison sentence for another sexual offense against a 9-year-old family member. During the hearing, the prosecution presented evidence that led the judge to order the provisional detention. The risks of the process, potential tampering with evidence, and the nature of the crime were also considered, leading to the application of the aforementioned precautionary measure. In another hearing, a judge approved the prosecutors' request for the provisional detention of a 70-year-old man for the aggravated rape of a 4-year-old minor.
