The National Migration Service (SNM) reported that 43 citizens of Colombian nationality were subject to migratory measures in Panama. Of these, 33 were deported while 10 were expelled from the international airport Marcos A. Gelabert due to their attempt to evade immigration controls in the country.
This incident represents a 38% decrease in irregular migration compared to previous figures. The immigration authorities detailed that the deported and expelled Colombians did not meet the legal requirements to stay in Panamanian territory and, therefore, were returned to their country of origin.
"Evading immigration control points is a serious offense that will not be tolerated in Panama. Our commitment is to enforce immigration laws and regulations to ensure safety and order in our country," emphasized a spokesperson for the National Migration Service.
These actions are part of Panama's ongoing efforts to regularize its migratory situation and strengthen control mechanisms at its borders. Cooperation between local authorities and international organizations is essential to combat irregular migration and protect the sovereignty of the country.
