Panamanian boxer Ricardo 'The Scientist' Núñez disagreed with the stoppage of the fight he held last Saturday in Germany against Cuban Jader Herrera, in which the interim lightweight world championship of the World Boxing Council (WBC) was at stake.
'The Scientist' Núñez lost by technical knockout in the eighth round to Herrera, who in that round connected a right hand to the face that the Panamanian felt. Subsequently, the Cuban continued with a combination of punches. At that moment, the 69-year-old Belgian referee Daniel Van de Wiele intervened, but when trying to separate the boxers, he fell to the canvas and once he got up, he decreed the technical knockout in favor of Herrera.
'The referee decided in the eighth round to stop the fight in a controversial way. I felt capable, the rival had hit me but I was still in my five senses, I felt good in the air and we were surprised because the referee took the decision to stop the fight,' recounted 'The Scientist' Núñez from Germany through his social networks.
'I want to thank my Panamanian people for all their good vibes. From this we have to get up like a warrior and move forward,' he pointed out. It should be noted that until the seventh round, the three judges assigned to the fight had a tie on their scorecards.
