Panama women's national team player Marta Cox will not be able to play in the World Cup Qualifier match after suffering an injury this Friday. A press release from the Panamanian Football Federation (FPF) detailed that its medical department reported during Friday's practice that Cox suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligament in her left leg, which has caused her to be ruled out of the Senior Women's National Team concentration. In her place, Head Coach Toña Is has called up Inter Panama CF player Ivis Ubarte. "The FPF wishes a speedy and successful recovery to our captain, Marta Cox," the press release concludes. Panama's Senior Women's National Team is preparing for its second World Cup Qualifier match against Saint Kitts and Nevis next Wednesday, March 4th, as the visiting team. Panama trained this week at Yappy Park, will rest tomorrow Saturday, and will finish their practices in Panama this Sunday at the Panamanian Football Federation's High Performance Center. On Monday morning, the delegation will be traveling to Saint Kitts and Nevis to play, on Wednesday starting at 6 in the afternoon (Panama time), the match against the local team in the city of Basseterre. In their first match of this phase, held on November 30th, Panama defeated Curacao 6-1 in a match corresponding to group E, which also includes Aruba, Cuba, and Saint Kitts and Nevis. Following the game against Saint Kitts and Nevis, Panama will host Aruba on April 9th and will close the group stage phase at home against Cuba on April 17th. Only the winner of the group will qualify for the W Championship, where the four Concacaf spots for the 2027 World Cup, to be held in Brazil, will be decided.
