The Panama team that will compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic began its journey today, Sunday, to continue its preparation in Tampa, Florida, United States, under the orders of manager José Mayorga.
The team will conclude its preparation with two games, the first against the New York Yankees this Tuesday, March 3, and on the 4th they will face the Detroit Tigers; both teams are in spring training.
On this occasion, Panama is led by several Major League players: Edmundo Sosa, José Caballero, Christian Bethancourt, as well as former major leaguers: Jaime Barría, Jonathan Araúz, and Allen Córdoba.
This World Classic will bring Panamanians $750,000 USD for participating, and it is expected that the fight against Cuba, Colombia, Canada, and Puerto Rico in Group A will be titanic in the quest for a spot in the second round.
The games will be at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the World Classic runs from March 5 to 17, 2026.
