Darién's Big Win Over Tightens Race for Playoffs

With the 5-1 victory of Darién over Herrera, the battle to qualify for the Series of 8 became tighter than ever. The Darién ninth team broke a three-game losing streak, fueled by a four-run rally in the top of the fifth inning that sealed the game. The third and fourth runs came on a double by Luis De León, who drove in Jonathan Polo and Carrillo himself to make the score 4-0. The fifth and final run came after a wild pitch, which allowed Isaías Velásquez to score. However, the Darién offense came alive again in the top of the fifth inning with four more runs. The first run again came on the legs of Mosquera, thanks to another intervention by Carrillo, who this time caused an 'out' by hitting a grounder to second base. It all started in the first inning, when a single to left field by Jean Carrillo brought the first run home on the legs of Carlos Mosquera. The next three and a half innings were a pitchers' duel, with both teams going scoreless. Herrera scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to avoid a shutout, but it wasn't enough to reverse the outcome. With the win, Darién improved its record to 5-5, while Herrera fell to 6-4. Darién is in eighth place, while Herrera is sixth, the latter a game and a half behind the leader Chiriquí.
