Colón Mayor Suspended for 30 Days Without Pay

The Colón Municipal Council suspended Mayor Diógenes Galván for 30 days without pay for failing to comply with municipal obligations and not paying community boards. Eleven district representatives demand the mayor's resignation.

The Colón Municipal Council has issued a resolution suspending Mayor Diógenes Galván for 30 days without pay. This decision was made due to repeated violations of the provisions established in municipal agreements and laws related to the functioning of municipalities. Regarding this resolution, the Colón mayor's office has not issued any comment, except for a statement indicating that some representatives refused to undergo an audit of the funds allocated to the community boards. Ricardo Cerrud, representative of the Cristóbal district, stated that in a year and seven months they have evidenced a serious lack by the mayor, as he ensures that he does not manage the resources properly, since he pays some community boards and not others. Pedro Santizo, representative of the Barrio Sur district, stated that this suspension is due to the lack of payment to the community boards and added that they have requested to meet with the mayor, but it has not been possible. The district of Colón is composed of 15 districts that are part of the Colón district. The 11 representatives demand from the mayor's office the payment to the community boards for their proper functioning. This resolution is issued due to the repeated non-compliance with the provisions established in the municipal agreements and in laws related to the functioning of the municipalities. The resolution will be delivered to the governor to suspend the mayor for a month without the right to salary.
