Teachers Prepare for New School Year in Colón

Over 5,000 teachers in Colón province are preparing for the 2026 school year. Most schools are ready for students, but one institution may open later due to repair issues.

In the province of Colón, more than 5,000 teachers have begun preparations for the 2026 school year, which will start next week. Rosa Martínez, regional director of the Ministry of Education (Meduca), reported that these teachers are distributed in official and private centers to serve a population of 61,000 students. She indicated that about 404 new teachers have already signed their appointments and have been integrating into their schools. Martínez added that substantial progress has been made in repairing school centers, including those affected by the bad weather in recent weeks. However, she stated that tentatively, one school, 'San Vicente de Paul,' may not start classes. A final decision has not been made, and an evaluation of the work done at that institution is underway, with opinions from specialists and the construction company expected to determine if in-person classes will begin.
