The future of regional cocoa was debated in Panama, where the First Annual Evaluation Meeting of a technical cooperation project for the sector was held, with the participation of the Ministry of Agricultural Development, led by Roberto Linares.
The meeting, which brought together delegates from 11 Latin American countries and experts from South Korea, evaluated the progress of the initiative funded by KoLFACI (Korea-Latin America and the Caribbean Cooperation Initiative for Food and Agriculture) and executed by CATIE, Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center.
The central objective of this project, which is in Phase II, is clear: to strengthen the productivity, profitability, and sustainability of modern cocoa systems in the region.
During the meeting, the progress of the first year of Phase II of the project was evaluated. Three main technical axes were reviewed: agronomic and agroforestry research, development of low-cost community nurseries, and strengthening of capacities and scientific publications for the cocoa value chain.
