Copa Airlines has announced a significant increase in flight frequencies between Panama City and David, representing a strategic boost for the country's air connectivity and the economic development of the western region. This means an approximate 40% increase in total seat capacity compared to November 2024. By the end of 2025, Copa Airlines estimates it will mobilize nearly 230,000 passengers on this route, highlighting the connection's importance for the tourism and economic development of the Chiriquí region, generating greater activity in the hotel, commercial, and service sectors.
The strengthening of air operations also boosts cargo movement, an essential component of the Chiriquí economy. In 2025, the airline has mobilized over 151 tons of cargo on the route, primarily perishable agricultural products and flowers from Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Colombia.
This initiative, developed by Copa Airlines in conjunction with the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and PROMTUR Panama, aims to stimulate tourism in various regions of the country. This adjustment is a response to the sustained growth in demand for tourism, business, and commercial exchange travel.
Diego Bermúdez, Copa Airlines' Director of Sales, highlighted that the expansion accompanies the growth of the western region and aligns with national efforts to diversify tourism development. "David is a key point within our domestic network... we strengthen its access to the growing network of routes that Copa Airlines offers across the continent through the Hub of the Americas," he noted.
As a result of this increase, the airline will operate three daily flights and, on weekends, up to four daily flights, averaging 23 flights per week between Panama City and David.
The increased connectivity from David opens new opportunities to integrate the Chiriquí province into the Panama Stopover program.
