50 Thousand Dollars Undeclared Seized from Two Passengers at Panama Airport

Inspectors from the National Customs Authority at Tocumen International Airport detained a total of $50,000 in cash from two passengers arriving from Havana, Cuba, who attempted to enter the country without declaring the corresponding amount. The incidents occurred separately as part of the profiling procedures carried out by customs inspectors. Both passengers, a 25-year-old and a 58-year-old, were questioned separately upon their arrival. Both declared that they were carrying no more than $10,000, which is the amount allowed without declaration. After the money was seized, the case was referred to the Public Ministry for the relevant investigations. However, during a personal search, it was discovered that each was carrying $25,000 in cash, which exceeded the permitted limit. Although both passengers claimed not to know each other, they were traveling on the same flight to a common destination.
