Two Women at Tocumen Airport Get Caught With $50,000 in Undeclared Cash

Inspectors from the National Customs Authority at Tocumen International Airport seized a total of $50,000 in cash from two female passengers arriving from Havana, Cuba, who attempted to enter the country without declaring the corresponding amount. The two passengers, one 25 years old and the other 58, were questioned separately upon arrival. Both declared they were carrying no more than $10,000, the amount permitted without declaration. However, during a body search, it was discovered that each was carrying $25,000 in cash, exceeding the permitted limit. Although both passengers claimed not to know each other, they were traveling on the same flight to the same destination. The events occurred separately, as part of the profiling procedures carried out by customs inspectors. After the money was seized, the case was referred to the Public Prosecutor's Office for further investigation.
