The first rice inventory of 2026 has begun in Panama. The main objective of this verification is to ensure the stability of the supply chain for the country's main staple food. During the process, officials will inspect both paddy and milled rice in various establishments. The data collected will serve as parameters to determine if the country has sufficient reserves or if rice imports are needed to meet market demand. It is important to note that in the last statistical record of this kind, conducted from May 26 to 30, 2025, a total availability of 2,806,361.94 quintals was recorded nationwide. The inventory is being carried out by the Authority for Consumer Protection and Competition Defense (Acodeco), the Agro-Marketing Institute (IMA), and the Ministry of Agricultural Development (Mida).
