Cabinet Approves $4.1 Million for Panama-David Railway Engineering Studies

The United States firm AECOM will provide technical and strategic advisory for the Panama-David Railway project. The contract, valued at B/.4,170,394.73, covers the 20% engineering design for the Albrook-Sajalices segment and the consolidation of feasibility studies. The National Railway Secretariat (SNDF) has reported significant progress on the master plan for the railway system. A new development includes the engineering design for additional sections between Albrook Station and El Espino, as well as the 20% conceptual design for the fifth bridge over the Panama Canal. This bridge is considered a critical piece of infrastructure for the corridor connecting the capital with the Chiriquí province. The AECOM consultancy will encompass specialized tasks, including coordinating feasibility studies following the Ministry of Economy and Finance's guidelines, overseeing infrastructure design, developing a business plan with market analysis, and structuring the legal framework. This megaproject, championed by President José Raúl Mulino, aims to establish a cargo and passenger railway line connecting Panama City with David, extending to the Costa Rican border to boost access to international markets.
